Universities, TV Network, and States File Lawsuits Against HHS Mandate

The individual mandate, the Medicaid expansion, the statewide exchanges, the IPAB... all of these provisions of ObamaCare have been challenged in federal court.  Add to that list the most recent HHS mandate requiring employers to provide coverage for contraceptives.  At least five universities, one TV network, and seven states have filed lawsuits over this mandate, claiming that the religious freedoms of employers are violated when they are forced to provide contraception coverage (including coverage for sterilization and the morning-after and week-after pill) that conflicts with their moral conscience.

  • Michigan
  • Texas
  • Florida
  • Ohio
  • Oklahoma

In their lawsuit, states are joined by other plaintiffs, including:

  • Catholic Social Services
  • Pius X Catholic High School
  • Catholic Mutual Relief Society of America
  • two individuals: Sister Mary Catherine, CK, and Stacy Molai
